We're getting ready for a right royal party!

May 25 2022

PEOPLE across the Kingswood district are preparing to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee over the four-day bank holiday weekend and beyond.

• The occasion will be marked with a beacon lighting on Siston Hill. This will take place from 9.15pm to 9.45pm on ThursdayJune 2, the first bank holiday of the four-day weekend.
It will be followed the following day by an afternoon and evening event at Warmley Forest Park organised by Siston parish council.
Running from 1pm to 9pm, the highlight of the day will be a Lancaster, Hurricane and Spitfire fly past at 2.38pm.
The day will also include performances from local groups, live music, a bar, a market and food stalls.

• About 18 households in Randall Close, Kingswood, will don their trainers and workout gear for a post-lockdown street workout to kick off their jubilee party.
Organiser Mandy Newport has lived in the cul-de-sac for 24 years and said the neighbours loved organising street parties.
She said: “This is the fifth time we’ve done it. We’ve done it to celebrate royal weddings and other events. When we couldn’t do anything during Covid my daughter, Vic, decided to get everyone together by organising fitness sessions in the street every Thursday night."
Once the fitness session is over on the jubilee weekend, everyone will enjoy an afternoon of team games, plus competitions for best cake, fancy dress, best-dressed house and Royal poem.
They’ve also planned a scavenger hunt, afternoon tea, a visit from the ice cream van, fish and chips and street karaoke.
Mandy said: “It should be a great, community spirit-filled, fun day.”

• A community party will take place on Hanham High Street.
Because of restrictions on when the road can be closed, the event will take place on Saturday 11 June.
Stalls, food, ice creams, and a variety of entertainment including bands and stilt walkers will help make the day memorable. A fun fair will also be set up on the road.
Residents can enjoy themselves from 2- 5pm, with the road closure starting at 1.30pm and running until 5.30pm.
Hanham Business and Community Partnership is organising and funding the event.
• Residents at Elkstone Walk, Bitton, are among those planning a Big Lunch street party on the green on June 5.
