University beckons for successful students

STUDENTS from SBL Academy in Oldland Common have accepted offers from competitive universities including Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, Edinburgh and Southampton and apprenticeship offers from the Ministry of Defence and Rolls Royce.

It follows some outstanding results in A-levels and vocational qualifications.

Principal Dean Anderson said: “We are very proud that our students have chosen to pursue pathways that will make a fantastic contribution to society in future, such as Aeronautics & Astronautics, Biomedical Sciences, Cancer Biology and Immunobiology, Chemical Engineering, Economics, Education, Law, Politics and Psychology.

• James Penny: 2 A*s and D*  

• Jack Davies: 2 A*s and A  

• Mia Davies: 2 A*s and A

IKB Academy in Keynsham, another post-16 provision in the former Wellsway Multi Academy Trust - now renamed Futura Learning Partnership - specialises in STEM  subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths) and is delighted that 75 per cent of students have earned places to study or work in these areas.

These include young people going off to study medicine, engineering, mcrobiology, motor engineering, computing and architecture at Russell Group universities and two gaining highly competitive apprenticeships with Rolls Royce and GKN.  

Principal Debbie Gibbs said: “Results day is always one of the most enjoyable days of the school year and we were delighted to see so many students and their families, celebrating their A-level and Btec results with staff. 

“At IKB Academy we are so proud of our amazing Year 13 students. They have shown resilience and determination managing the challenges that have faced them and they fully deserve the fantastic results they collected. It was a joy to share in their achievements born out of all the hard work throughout their time with us in the sixth form.
