Support young carers
SCHOOLS in South Gloucestershire are being urged to sign up to a scheme to support young carers.
Thirty eight of the 120 primary and secondary schools in the district already take part in the Young Carers in Schools programme. Others are being encouraged to join the scheme, promoted by Children’s Society and Carers Trust, in time for National Young Carers Awareness Day on January 30.
Young carers struggle to keep up with their schoolwork, are often bullied at school, and have significantly lower educational attainment than other children. The average age of a young carer is just 13.
