September 2019: Peter's Vision
I generally think that we humans don't like change, but there are times when change happens whether we like it or not. The global political & economic scene is a great example here, but don’t worry, that’s the last time I mention politics.
I would say that in general I’m happy embracing change. If you’ve read this blog before you probably know that I like new things - high tech equipment, the latest lighter, thinner & clearer lenses and particularly new glasses & sunglasses!
Often the biggest change this time of year is back to school. We’ve no new schools in our house this year, but certainly new classes & new teachers for our three to look forward to meeting!
It’s a good time of year to remind all you parents & grandparents that eye checks for young eyes are highly recommended, at least once a year. It always surprises me to read that only around 25% of us take our children for eye checks (yes, I have seen all the young eyes in our house this month!) but 75% of us take our children for dental checks.
In general most children can see well and normally. We do still see those who have just assumed that their blurry eyes are normal and that no one else sees any better. Until your children have an eye check it’s hard to be sure they’re seeing clearly.
Of note are children who report words moving, jumbling or going blurry - these need careful assessment as glasses aren’t always the answer. Sometimes coloured tints or eye exercises are needed. Come and see us for a thorough assessment and advice if you or your child have any concerns, even if you’ve already had a sight test.
One change I do enjoy is my transitions - glasses that darken in the sun. Being out and about more with my family they are definitely an easy option. Taking just one pair of glasses leaves a little more room in my rucksack for snacks too! I know glasses that change in the sun aren’t for all of you, but if you’d like to try them we offer you a love them or leave them exchange guarantee.
You & your family, however young, are most welcome to come and see us for your eye care and glasses - whether you like your lenses to change with the sun or not!
