November 2020: Kingswood Memories
This photograph of the Lucas factory in Moravian Road, Kingswood, dates from 1966 (photo courtesy of the South Gloucestershire Gazette).
The company was founded by Thomas Edward Lucas in 1926, and was the first to manufacture yeastless rusk – a purpose designed cereal binder for butchers who had previously used returned stale bread for their sausages.
The company was taken over by Kerry Foods and moved production to a new site at Portbury, near Avonmouth.
Kingswood Heritage Museum would like to create a new display featuring the Lucas factory in Kingswood.
