PUPILS at Summerhill Academy welcomed a special visitor – Bristol Mayor Marvin Rees.

Mr Rees spent an hour and a half at the academy, seeing first hand the teaching and learning which goes on there.

He was given a tour by Year 6 pupils who answered his questions as they visited each classroom. Next the Mayor hosted a question and answer session where boys
and girls quizzed him on matters which affect them as citizens of Bristol such as the environment, race equality and the role of the Mayor.

Mr Rees spent time chatting to parents and carers in the school playground. He also met members of St George Breathing Better to discuss air quality.

Mr Rees said: “I really enjoyed talking with students about St George Park, clean air and reducing plastic use.”

Rebecca Curtis, principal of Summerhill Academy, said: “We were delighted that Marvin was able to visit Summerhill Academy today, the children were engaged and motivated by his visit.”
