Kingswood & Hanham Bowling Club

May 25 2022

WHAT a successful year 2021 was for everyone connected with Kingswood and Hanham Bowling Club. Despite all the challenges that Covid had thrown at us, the flame never died at and when we were able to get back to bowls we did; with much success both on and off the bowling green.

The season started brilliantly with the inaugural Bowls England sponsored Bowls Big Weekend event at the end of May 2021. Our club really got behind this recruitment campaign and welcomed over 60 people along to our green. From those who attended, 35 took the next step and signed up to join us. We are so thrilled that they enjoyed their 1st season and are all planning to return for the coming season.

The season went from strength to strength and our achievements on the green were outstanding. Our men's teams were triumphant: they did the double, winning both the North-East league and also the North-East Cup. Our ladies’ teams were once again triumphant and for the third year in succession were crowned County Champions for Gloucestershire in the National Ladies Top Club competition. In addition, the ladies were very successful in a number of County Competitions. They were crowned County Champions in two team events:

Ladies fours (Jan Williams, Sue Osborne, Pam Salvage & Val Molton) and Ladies Senior Fours (Lindsay Collin, Sue Osborne, Pam Salvage, Val Molton). There was further success for one individual at County level with Val Molton being crowned County Champion in 3 separate events: Ladies 4 wood Singles, Ladies 2 wood Singles and Ladies 4 wood Senior Singles. These successes meant our ladies all went on to represent Gloucestershire in the National Finals at Leamington Spa.

It didn’t end there. 2021 saw Bowls England launch an awards event to recognise clubs and individuals in a whole host of categories, one of which was Bowls England Club of the Year. A group of us attended the awards night and we were ecstatic and extremely excited when despite being up against very strong competition from the other shortlisted clubs, Kingswood and Hanham were announced as Bowls England Club of the Year for 2021.

Not wanting to rest on our laurels and always looking forward, we are now looking to build on the successes of 2021 and will be throwing open our gate to welcome people along to our Bowls Big Weekend event for 2022. This will take place on Saturday 28th May. Please check our website - Kingswood & Hanham Bowling Club – Where the fun starts! (kandhbowls.org), Our facebook page (Kingswood and Hanham Bowls Club) and also the Bowls England website and their social media accounts as more details on this event will be announced very soon.

For now, get the date in your diary and follow up on one of the links to find out more and to secure a place so that you are ready to come along and join in the fun. We are very much looking forward to all that 2022 has to offer.
