July 2020: On the Treatment Table

July 14 2020

MY last article for Kingswood Voice pre-Covid 19 never quite made it to publication for obvious reasons! My first draft had been about training for my 13th running of the London Marathon, but this was then quickly re-written when the 2020 London Marathon was postponed until October.

The situation then changed rapidly (as we now know), and we closed our clinics on Friday March 20, shortly before lockdown was implemented 13 weeks ago. During the Covid-19 lockdown I stayed on at Kingswood Health Centre to help them with admin duties, and it was a privilege to see first-hand the dedication and commitment of the whole NHS team pulling together to provide great care for their patients at such a challenging time. Looking back and reflecting, it’s hard to believe how much all our lives have changed since then and how we have had to adapt to our new way of living.

The good news is that on June 1 we reopened our clinic at Kingswood Health Centre for chiropractic and private physiotherapy, following the advice of our governing and professional bodies. We are awaiting further guidance on when our sports massage, foot healthcare and Pilates classes can restart, although this is likely to be from the start of July. This return to clinic isn’t quite a return to normal however, due to the fact that all of our treatments are hands on.

During lockdown we have been busy performing rigorous risk assessments of our clinics. This has resulted in changing the layout of our reception and treatment rooms for social distancing, sourcing PPE and upgrading our cleaning practices to minimise infection risk, and also changing our appointment times to help social distancing. So, while some things are different, I’m glad to say that our clinicians are still eager to provide the same quality of care to our patients as we did prior to the Covid-19 outbreak.

In the meantime, take care of yourselves, your family and friends, keep exercising to stay well physically and mentally, and let’s hope the situation continues to improve as quickly as possible. You can call us on 0117 961 2060, find us on Facebook or email enquiries@actionpotential.org.uk to book.

We provide chiropractic, physiotherapy, sports massage and podiatry treatments and Pilates at Kingswood Health Centre and Hengrove Park Leisure Centre.
