Hospice volunteer wins £1,000 lottery prize
A CHARITY volunteer from Kingswood had a welcome surprise on hearing that she’d won £1,000 in the St Peter’s Hospice lottery.
May Diorazio buys a ticket every week for the draw and this month the charity’s Kingswood shop supplied the winning ticket.
She said: “It’s unbelievable that I won – it was a lovely surprise!” .
May started work at the original St Peter’s Hospice store in Kingswood 25 years ago, giving two mornings a week of her time. She joined fellow volunteers from Our Lady of Lourdes and St Bernadette Catholic Church at the shop and has seen many changes over the years, including the set-up of a clearance shop in Kingswood, and transferring to new premises on Regent Street.
May said: “Things have changed dramatically since I started and have become more structured over the years and paid managers introduced. The place looks more like a boutique than a charity shop now.”
For now, May is holding on to her winnings, but she’s already bought her tickets for the next lottery.
