Electric car charging point could come to civic centre

July 25 2022

AN ELECTRIC vehicle charging point could be installed at Kingswood civic centre to help people switch to electric vehicles (EVs.)

South Gloucestershire Council is consulting on whether charging points are needed and where they should be situated. Kingswood is one of the locations being considered.

It is expected that within the next eight years, 30 per cent of cars will be electric.

The council’s cabinet member for transport, Steve Reade, said: “As a council we are committed to encouraging more people to make the switch to sustainable travel options such as walking, cycling or public transport.

“We understand, though, that some journeys need to be made by car and that is why we have launched a new EV Charging Strategy.

“By improving and increasing the EV charging network across the area we are making owning an EV a more realistic option and I encourage people to complete the consultation.”

The council has said it wants to ensure that the majority of households are within one mile of a charging point.
