Big day for Bitton
THE annual St Mary’s Church fete in Bitton takes place on Saturday September 7.
The fete is the major fundraiser for the Grade I listed church and last year’s event raised almost £8,000.
This year the gates will begin at the earlier time of 1.30pm to allow people to get a drink or something to eat before the opening pageant at 2.15pm.
This year there will be a photography competition, open to everyone. The photograph, which can be colour or black and white, must be printed and be a maximum size of 200mm x 200mm. It must be your own work and taken within the last two years.
There are six categories - Happy, Bitton Scenes, Mad Moment, Architecture, Animals/Wildlife and Food. There are two sections, one for adults (£1 entry fee per picture) and one for juniors (under-16s) for which the entry fee is 50p per photo.
Entries must be supplied with the fee, your name, contact number and date the photo was taken.
Entries can be either be sent to 2 Ceres Close, Longwell Green, BS30 9AR (by 6.30pm on Friday September 6) or to St Mary's Church between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on that Friday.
As usual on the Glebe Field there will be a dog show as well as stalls, games, a licensed bar and barbecue, egg throwing competition and raffle, plus a Pimm’s tent if the weather is good. There will also be a Punch & Judy show and music from Oldland Brass.
The church will be open serving teas and cakes and at nearby Church Farm there will be the chance to have a cream tea and listen to the Jazzbeans.
